A Little Bit Of Whimsy!

Monday, March 29, 2010

Much to my surprise I got a little bit of time in my GreenRoom this weekend. In between baseball games and work, I stole a little time to make these *NEW* flower necklaces. I have been wanting to add more of these necklaces in different colors just had to find the time to make them. I love the new colors and am hoping to add even more new colors soon!! Of course I love the red that I call my poppy necklace, which already sold, but the teal and green turned out great! I did end up making more red too in two different sizes.  I will be adding these necklaces to my store this week but this is a sneak peek!

New Spring Lily Necklace

Friday, March 26, 2010

The idea of this necklace came to me in a dream....yes,  I had a dream about this necklace and woke up out of a dead sleep and reached for my sketch pad, the one that I keep on my night stand for times that I have inpirations come to me in my sleep. Yes, it is true my creative mind never sleeps.

This *New* beautiful necklace is new to my spring/summer collection 2010. Inspired by nature and spring fever galore!! I cant wait to see the lilies as they start to bloom and let us know that winter is long gone. Until then...this beautiful flower of metal that will last forever fills the void. This was handmade with love by using mixed metals, copper and sterling silver. This pendant hangs on a beautiful 20" textured link chain that has been antiqued lightly only to show off details and match the flower pendant. The lily pendant is 3 1/8" long by 1 1/2" wide. This necklace is a great gift for Easter, Mothers Day..or just because you love it. I cant believe that Easter is just around the corner!

Poppies!!

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Im in a poppy mood! I love poppies of all colors, reds and oranges. I live in California and our state flower is the orange poppy. Spring has sprung and it is so neat to drive through the mountains and see all of the wild poppies in groves  against the green hills. I am hoping to make it to atleast one of the wild poppy reserves that are around the area this year before they start to disappear. These pieces of jewelry are new to my collection this spring. A little bit of nature, inspired with a whimsy twist. They are so bright and cheery that you cant help but to smile when you look at them. The necklace has sold, it didnt last long but I am hoping to add more in my shop soon. The rings I have just added in a couple of different sizes. There is a ruffled poppy ring in two sizes larger for the more daring and a med. size for somone more  conservative. I love the ring that has a ruffled.frayed looking edge too! They have sterling silver wire bands and are very comfortable to wear. The thing that I love about these flowers is that they will never fade away....A flower that lasts forever.

Something About Stone!

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Sterling Silver, Copper, Turquoise...whats not to love?? For me I have only started to love and appreciate this genuine stone from our earth. Yes, I was a late bloomer. My favs were crystal, glass, and sterling silver which has later evolved into a love for stone and mixed metals over the past 5-6 years. While selling jewelry at my local craft shows I cant tell you the number of times that I have had a customer who is drawn to a certain stone in a necklace or bracelet because when they touch it they say that it makes them feel good or they connect with that piece of stone. Turquoise is one that people are commonly drawn too.

Turquoise was also known as a symbol of wealth in many ancient cultures. If given turquoise by a loving friend, that stone would protect the wearer from negative energy and bring good fortune. Turquoise is also the symbol of friendshop and brings peace to the home. Turquoise is also believed to take on the characteristics of the owner.

This is a sneak peek of this necklace that I will be listing later in my store. It is very rustic in nature from the color in the turquoise to the finishing of the metal and design. I have so many beautiful stones that I have been collecting to make into pieces of jewelry..so stay tuned.

Hide And Seek In The Daffodils With Sunny!

Monday, March 22, 2010

I have two Rat Terriers, Sunny and Baby girl. Does anyone remember the old RCA photo of the dog and the record player? Well..that was a Rat Terrier in that photo. This is Sunny and she was born without the black and brown traditional markings that Rat Terriers usually have. She is solid white with only has a few black ticking marks. This weekend she was cracking us up because she likes to go and hide in these Daffodils. When we would yell "Sunny" she would pop her head up and look at us and then lay back in the flowers. I thought it was so cute I wanted to share. It was so nice in the California mountains this weekend as you can see the Daffodils are blooming and our trees are starting to flower. "LOVE IT"  Happy Spring Everyone!!

I Cant Believe That I Actually Took These Photos With My Camera!

Saturday, March 13, 2010

At Etsy everyone stresses how important the right photos are for selling your product. Take your pictures in good natural light, make sure to adjust macro for close up photos etc. Well I do agree, a great photo really does sell the product. Taking photos and learning what works best, lighting, what time of day is right, what backgrounds to use,  is not easy especially if you are not the avid photographer. Oh and having the right camera helps too. What camera really is the best? I have no idea. I do have to say that I love my camera though..and you would never beleive how old it is.  Yep atleast 5 years. Well maybe that is not too old but with the way that technology is today my camera is a dinosaur. I thought about buying a better megapixel camera but then I end up with great photos like the ones above and I think of the old saying, if its not broken..dont fix it. I use a Minolta and it is a shocking 3 megapixels. Yep, thats it! I have found that along with making sure that I take my cell phone, cell phone ear piece, cell phone charger, purse, lunch, jewelry to send out , that I absolutly have to take my camera with me to work too.  It is one of my cant live without items especially now that I am selling on etsy and writing a blog etc. I love these photos, taken about a month ago,  I thought Id share.

Where Is Our California Sun??

Friday, March 12, 2010

Like everyone, I am so ready for the spring/summer weather. I am lucky enough to live in the mountains in California where we have more sunny months than cloudy but I think that this year is an exception. I was in my LittleGreenRoom a couple of weeks back and looked outside to see another cloudy drizzly day and the design for this bracelet popped in my head...yes they sometimes just pop in my head LOL. This cuff was inspired from my winter blues and eagerly awaiting spring and summer. This is one of those pieces that took time and patience, lining up the shapes, centering, and making sure that they all solder evenly is not easy sometimes. There are 18 pieces of cut metal shapes in brass, copper and sterling silver. This cuff is one of the 6-8 that I have drawn out at home on my sketch pad waiting to come to life. I have found that if I dont write/draw my ideas down I will forget and a great idea will be lost. Sometimes I just have evenings where I have drawing sessions where ideas just come to me left and right. I love those days. For me, with art,  I have to be in the mood.  I have to be inspired and excited. This was one of those pieces that was made from pure excitement. I like to say that life is too serious..so wear a piece of jewelry that puts a smile on your face and makes you happy. For me, this is one of those pieces that makes you smile.

The Poppy And The Fence Post

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

One spring morning 2009 I walked out in my garden to see if there were any new spring flowers that had started to grow. Winter had finally ended. Things had not quite started to fill in with beautiful colors yet for spring. As I walked around the side of the house I saw such a surprise. It was a big, bright, beautiful, poppy in front of a old fence post. The color of the poppy was so bright and beautiful against the backdrop of the winter colors of brown. It made me smile because of its bright happy color. I took a mental note of the flower against the old fence post because I wanted to try to recreate it in a piece of jewelry.

2010~I finally created this beautiful metal poppy that sat in front of the old fencepost and love the way that it turned out. It is exactly what I saw last spring and am looking forward to this spring to see if the same cute spring poppy will appear this year in the same place.

This is a very *Rustic* design, the fencepost is suppose to look very rustic and somewhat aged. The whimsy design of the poppy is the perfect contrast to the fencepost. I like to try to incorporate a little, rustic, whimsy in all of my jewelry pieces. I have a few other pieces that resemble this line that I hope to be adding soon too!  I cant wait to share!!

Finding A Four Leaf Clover..

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Hmmm I have never been lucky enough to find a four leaf clover. When we were little we used to have patches of four leaf clover in our grass and we would sit there and try to race to see who could come up with a four leaf clover first. I don't remember ever finding one though. A couple of weeks ago we were on a trip to the coast and along the boardwalk next to the ocean there were these patches of clover and little wild flowers that reminded me of when I was little so I took a few pictures. According to tradition, finding a four leaf clover brings good luck to their finders, especially if found accidentally. According to legend, each leaflet represents something: the first is for hope, the second is for faith, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck. Clovers can have more than four leaflets too. The most ever recorded is twenty-one but unofficial claims of discovery have ranged as high as twenty-seven. It has been estimated that there are approximately 10,000 three leaf clovers for every four leaf clover.
I found this cute poem that I wanted to share in honor of St. Patty's Day
by Jack Prelutsky
I found a four leaf clover
and was happy with my find,
but with time to think it over,
I've entirely changed my mind.
I concealed it in my pocket,
safe inside a paper pad,
soon, much swifter than a rocket,
my good fortune turned to bad.
I smashed my fingers in a door,
I dropped a dozen eggs,
I slipped and tumbled to the floor,
a dog nipped both my legs,
my ring slid down the bathtub drain,
my pen leaked on my shirt,
I barked my shin, I missed my train,
I sat on my dessert.
I broke my brand new glasses,
and I couldn't find my keys,
I stepped in spilled molasses,
and was stung by angry bees.
When the kitten ripped the curtain,
and the toast burst into flame,
I was absolutely certain
that the clover was to blame.
I buried it discreetly
in the middle of a field,
now my luck has changed completely,
and my wounds have almost healed.
If I ever find another,
I will simply let it be,
or I'll give it to my brother-
he deserves it more that me.

Awaiting Spring Anxiously!

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

These beautiful photos by Tracey at www.raceytay.etsy.com take my breath away. I live in sunny California but the sun has been playing hide and seek for weeks now. I live in the mountains where we are lucky enough to grow beautiful flowers that resemble these pictures but they are nowhere to be seen. I stumbled upon some of Tracey's beautiful pictures that remind me of our beautiful spring days here in California. Tracy is having a March BOGO special right now. Buy one 8x8 or larger and receive another 8x8 free. She is also offering sets and series at discounted prices too. She has a great eye to capture nature at its best. I asked Tracey what her inspiration is when she gets behind the camera and she said that she likes to create something beautiful that is not necessarily there when she takes the photo but that she can see, and wants to create for everyone else to see. Tracey is always looking to create a photo that will make her best friend swear. Her friend is rather proper and she knows that if she can get him to say something improper then she will have created something special. You should check out her other beautiful photos, they take you on a journey.
